It was one year ago today that I was sitting in church and felt a strong impression that I needed to help women and children fleeing the war. It is hard to believe the miracles that have occurred, the donations given, work accomplished, lives saved, suffering reduced and friendships made in this last year. I am grateful that I decided to follow that impression and grateful for all those who have supported our efforts the last 365 days! Thank You! Before last year, I wasn’t sure where Ukraine was, now my heart is part Ukrainian! The team surprised me this morning with a green Zelensky sweatshirt to commemorate the day I was called to serve Ukraine.
Woke to a dusting of snow in Kyiv. Walked a few blocks to take a few pictures of the LDS temple. After breakfast we headed to Rivne. Our usual routine is to give a box of Clif bars to soldiers at checkpoints and any we see along the way. When we stopped at the gas station this morning, I saw a few soldiers getting into a truck so I grabbed a couple boxes of Clif Bars to give to one of them. They all got out of the truck and shook our hands and gave us each a hug. We thanked them for their service. I walked into the gas station and 30 seconds later one of the soldiers came in to had me a patch of the Ukrainian flag, then a second soldier came in to give me a brigade patch. May we all pray for their safety! When we pulled into another gas station, there was a volunteer who was from Georgia. On his vehicle there was the Ukrainian flag that said: “Glory Ukraine, Glory Georgia”. Arrived to Rivne and was thrilled to see the Donations from the Magic Valley have arrived! Those donations immediately filled vans headed to the frontlines. We also unloaded the Semi that had the Solar generators that Jason Anderson sent for Lee Fowkes. We will dropped them to him in Lviv. The other day when we visited the hospital, we asked what they needed. They didn’t have any dryers to dry towels, sheets and clothes. We purchased and delivered two dryers. While we were there we checked in on Daniel and they did amputate the second leg. I reached out to Solomon Smith with Backroads Foundation to see if we could find a way to help Daniel with prosthetics. Hoping we can help this young man whose life has been changed forever. Had to say good bye to my friends and family at the Rivne Hub since we are headed further west in the morning.
