Day four!

Updated: Oct 5, 2023

Day four This morning we got up and had a good breakfast. I couldn’t sleep last night because my mind was racing. How could all this be happening. I just couldn’t turn my mind off after what I had experienced. Today the core of the day would be helping Sergey Zasukha’s sister and niece get to Tijuana. At breakfast we meet a refugee headed to Rexburg Idaho. She is related to one of our friends in twin falls. This is an amazingly small world. After breakfast we went to get a new piece of luggage from the church (there is a storage area that is being rented on the first floor). Marina had her large piece of luggage break on the journey out of Ukraine. Lance Foster who is an awesome man bought 90 pieces of luggage that he is letting the drivers take to the border for the refugees. Many come across with grocery bags.

We took the bag to Marina at the hotel. We found them eating breakfast and extremely happy and thankful.

Then we took a family of 5 from the church to the train station with Elder Limb and Rob. While that was happening Gary went and got a microwave for the Bloomfields (senior missionaries that are sick in their apartment so they could cook. Then we took Sergey’s family who is from Chernigov (Natasha his sister and Anastasia his niece) to the airport. It took forever to get them situated as Sergey had to get them visas and find a way to print it at the airport and then we got them on their flight.

Then we took Marina and her group to dinner. The kids were so happy and Igor became my best friend. He would eat everything I did. It was cute. After dinner we got them train tickets. They leave tomorrow so we will get them to the train and say goodbye.

I want to thank so many people for helping remotely. After we pick people up we send a message asking for hotel rooms and people back home book the refugees rooms for us using their money and send us the confirmations while we make the 2.5 hour drive to Kraków. It is amazing to see the generosity. Thank you thank you. When the refugees get to the hotel they just melt. They can sleep in a bed not a cot or train. They can have a shower. When we pick them up the next morning they are in such a different state. They also get a nice big breakfast.

Then last night we did another border run and picked up three families.
